Focus Pull
Pull focuses involve changing the focus of a shot, typically from the foreground to the background. The clear change of subject in the frame diverts the audience's attention; this can be used to create a variety of effects, such as introducing a character's or a setting's significance, or reflecting on a character's emotions.
A similar type of shot is the focus throw, in which the focus is completely lost. This is sometimes used as an establishing or diminishing technique, or as an alternative transition, although this isn't suitable for the thriller genre.
In professional productions, a dedicated focus puller is employed, to carefully plan and execute a perfect change of focus. However, in our production, the cameraman – Connor – will be in charge of pulling focus.
